About This Place

Welcome to Café Stephan's Cathedral, a hidden gem nestled in the heart of Passau, Germany. Located at Domplatz 2, this charming café offers not only delicious food and beverages but also an unforgettable ambiance, framed by the stunning architectural wonders of the nearby cathedral.

As soon as you step inside, you're greeted by an ornate interior that showcases the rich culture of the region. For those who prefer to soak in the sun, the outdoor terrace offers a perfect vantage point to glimpse the breathtaking views of Dom and Mariahilf. Guests rave about the cozy atmosphere and the friendly staff, making every visit feel like a warm welcome.

According to Valentina F, this is an "awesome place to drink tea and eat a delicious piece of cake." It’s hard to argue against that sentiment. The café is particularly known for its scrumptious pastries, like the highly recommended apple strudel and poppy seed cake that Paul Donovan enjoyed during his visit. The desserts are beautifully crafted and provide a delightful complement to the rich coffee, which some say rivals even the finest brews from Italy.

Moreover, Celine Ann Trinidad swears by the café's famous hot chocolate, describing it as a creamy delight that just might be a meal in its own right. For those visiting during the market days, the bustling energy outside only adds to the café's charm, making it a perfect pause from your explorations. Whether you're seeking a sweet treat paired with a luxurious chocolate cappuccino or simply a place to relax, Café Stephan's Cathedral checks all the right boxes.

In essence, Café Stephan's Cathedral stands out not just for its delicious offerings, but also for its remarkable location and friendly atmosphere. Each visit is more than just a meal; it's an experience enriched by the stunning backdrop and warm hospitality. So why wait? Make your way to this delightful café and let your taste buds embark on an unforgettable journey.

Awsome place to drink tea and eat a delicious piece of cake. The waitress was very nice and came with our order quickly. I recommend to sit outside, find a place on the terrace (if the weather allows it) and enjoy the view of the Dom!

Nice atmosphere, indoor & outdoor terrace seating, front terrace has outdoor seating for handicap, toilets located outside front seating area thru unmarked brown door, but several 1 & 2 steps involved, no ramps. Inside is ornate, plenty of seating, a large outdoor patio is accessed from the main inside area, surrounded by the church towers on one side, and can see Mariahilf on the right over the rooftops. Staff were friendly, Coffee was very good, must be clear on your order, they call coffees by different names than USA. The pastries and cakes looked fabulous. Staff spoke English well enough.

Amazing place, great people and yummmyyyy food! Always a pleasure to come here everytime I’m in Passau

Saturday was market day in front of the beautiful Cathedral and we peeked inside thinking that the prices would rule us out (because of how beautiful it is inside) but we were pleasantly surprised. So we came back for dessert a few hours later and totally enjoyed the ambiance, friendly service, great cake (poppy seed …yum yum!), coffee and beer ! Highly recommend.

I love the chocolate cappuccino and apple strudel! The cafe is famous for their hot chocolate and that alone can be filling. Nice stop to be at from touring the beautiful Passau.

The place very welcome, the service was very nice and quick, we test sup of the day, tomato and Asparagus it was very good,

Amazing place!!! Relaxing atmosphere nice coffee and cakes. Kindly staff Highly Recommended
